Apple Kuchen by Suzy Nieman
From Old KRC Cookbook, recipe originally by Mrs. Glen Edwards
My grandmother, Christine Duck, made this often, and it’s still good, uses local apples and is very easy!
Ingredients:
Apples and TSprinopping
6 medium sized apples, peeled and sliced thinly
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Batter
¼ cup sugar
2 tablespoons margarine or butter
½ cup milk
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
Baking
8 inch greased square pan; oven at 375
Procedure
1. Peel and slice apples thinly
2. Mix together other ingredients for topping; set apples and topping mix aside.
3. Cream butter and sugar to make batter
4. Sift and add dry ingredients to sugar mixture alternately with milk
5. Mix well.
6. Spread in 8 inch greased, square pan.
7. Arrange apple slice mixture on top of batter
8. Sprinkle with topping mix
9. Bake at 375 for 35 to 40 minutes.
I like this for breakfast or brunch, but with some whipped cream, it would make a great dessert!
